Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT and Woolworths are calling on local communities to make a difference for children in need this October through the Woolworths Small Change Appeal.
The twice-yearly appeal supports Variety’s year-round life-changing grants, scholarships and programs for children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage, or living with a disability.
One program in particular, the Variety Sunshine Coach, provides schools with purpose-built transport for students to access educational, sporting and community activities.
For students at Cecil Hills High School, the Sunshine Coach offers freedom and a greater sense of belonging and social connection.
“The Sunshine Coach has made a meaningful difference to our students by providing opportunities to safely access the community and participate in authentic learning experiences beyond the classroom,” said Specialised Education Teacher, Leearna Borg.
“It enables students to develop independence, build social and life skills, and engage in excursions that enrich their learning in real world settings.”
For students like 15-year-old Luka, the highlight is getting out and about with his classmates.
“Luka enjoys travelling out into the community with his peers, exploring new places and engaging in activities that build his confidence,” Leearna said.
Variety NSW/ACT CEO, Tony Warner, said the Sunshine Coach program is about so much more than just a vehicle.
“For more than four decades, Sunshine Coaches have helped ensure children living with disability, chronic illness, financial hardship or geographical isolation don’t miss out on the experiences that shape childhood,” he said.
“These coaches offer a pathway to inclusion and independence. They are key to our mission of removing barriers and helping children to thrive and reach their full potential.”
Woolworths Small Change Appeal – October 2026
From Wednesday 30 September to Tuesday 20 October 2026, Woolworths customers can support Variety through the Woolworths Small Change Appeal by donating in-store or online.
Funds raised will help Variety provide vital grants and deliver programs such as the Variety Sunshine Coaches.
Every contribution helps create stronger communities and empowers children to live without limits.
